Purple Martin Scouting Season
The arrival of a new year is an exciting time for many, but the owners have a reason purple martin more to feel satisfied. The reason is that purple martin "scouts" will soon begin arriving and the search for nesting sites. enthusiastic Purple martin should be themselves occupied in cleaning and maintenance of their homes for birds in the preparation of a colony of martins, which could come as early as December.

Over the last twenty or thirty years, Purple Martins have recovered from population declines close to the disastrous, mainly because of caring people to support and maintain proper purple martin birdhouses. These wonderful birds are not out of the woods yet, however. Opportunities for new purple martin landlords abound.
Another thing people can do to help support the advancement of Purple Martins' is to report the sightings and breeding success to appropriate agencies. There are many such institutions, including the Audubon Society, Laboratory of Ornithology, and the Purple Martin Conservation Association.
PMCA has several "citizen science" projects, including the annual Scout on arrival. Purple martin lovers (not necessarily owners) to inform the PMCA ever see a purple martin scout in your area. This helps to control habits migration of birds, purple martin landlords can use it to know when to open their purple martin birdhouses in a given area. For example, in 2004, 2005 and 2006 seasons, the first sightings in Florida occurred in December last year! Meanwhile, sightings scout for the first time in New York came in mid-April of those years.
