Teaching Patriotism is a growing concern
Patriotism is a growing concern in our nation today. One way to teach children patriotism is to be in an informative play or program. Many schools and teachers are looking for programs that fit this description that are easy to put on and take practice time very little so far. With all the teaching and testing that teachers are required to do by the "No Child Left Behind" the idea has left them with little time to do the creative programs for its students.
These programs also need to teach and educate students in a creative on his country. The programs or games to show what a freedom invaluable gift is for them to celebrate and embrace. The teaching of respect for their flag, country and other patriotic symbols like the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial is important for patriotism to take root in young children.
Some children learn about the etiquette of the flag, learn what to do when playing taps. What should you do if you is wearing a hat? Some students have learned or know what the Statue of Liberty and other symbols are, but have you ever heard of or learn the history behind the symbol. We must take time to teach the story of how these symbols of the history of wine and why they are so important to our country.
The first time I had a man come into our school and taps played even adults do not know what the proper protocol was. Many SAT not know they should stand up and so that even adults are taught, when the first person standing, which is the right thing to do.
The flag is used in meetings to help students know they need to stand when a color guard walks by. They need to know that the flag should be placed in a room. They need to know when the unit a company that was flying 3 flags and take the flag means is in Canada rather than the two American flags on the end that that's not right to display. Students need to know how to raise a flag, fold a flag and a flag can be cleaned. One of my studies social proof was that all my students had to fold the flag correctly. Yes, everything! The girls thought only boys could do it because they were the scouts.
Programs can teach about the symbols. Programs using the Bill of Rights to help students remember what those rights. Programs that use all the wonderful music that has been written about our country gives them feelings of pride. Programs honoring those who have served our country are very useful to teach students that their freedom was paid for the sweat and blood. Having some of the men the service and talk to the students actually help them see that there are real people who do not fight just the images on a screen play.
I found that when my students participated in a program they have learned much more than when you just did in the classroom. The year we did all amendments in the Bill of Rights in September remembered the rights clearly until studied in January and February in our textbook. Students need to feel that feeling patriotic as they sing a patriotic song because in general the feeling is not coming to read in a textbook.
